Down to the wire.

Blerg! I have made an executive decision to put a hold on Yoshi for the time being. It became a stressful and complicated obligation and no Yoshi should be born into the world under those circumstances. I want my boyfriend's costume to be super epic so I'm dedicating my superb sewing skills to that this week. Not to worry though, my alternative costume is pretty awesome and way, way, WAY less work. Pics to come! I promise.

Ut oh!

I'm sorry I haven't written in awhile. I ran into some trouble. First the hood was way too small... Always add like 2 or 3 inches to your measurements unless you want a skin-tight hoodie. I'm afraid the sleeves will be the same way... Also the neck hole ended up being too big. So I'll be doing a lot of seam ripping and re-cutting. More to come!

Phase One: The Planning Stage

The Yoshi costume I made before started out as a hoodie. That seemed to work pretty well, so I decided to keep that. But, I couldn't find a good hoodie pattern so I decided to make my own pattern. I have never made a pattern before, so I'm really not so sure if it's going to turn out okay... we'll see! Before I made the pattern pieces I drafted what each piece would look like and took measurements.

Then I bought some fabric that I believe is used to make pattern pieces... it's interfacing with a grid printed on it.

And I drafted all the pieces on the fabric...

In case you want to make your own I included how many to cut and from what color fabric. It's hard to make out the pattern lines in this picture but you can make out the basic shape from the first picture.

Next, I bought some fabric! I used fleece because it's fuzzy and doesn't need the edges finished. Plus, it's warm so I won't need to worry about wearing a jacket over it if it's cold outside.

Also pictured is a bag of polyfil to stuff the spikes, tail and saddle rim. I bought one bag to start with but I think I may need more.

Then I cut the pieces out! This is my least favorite part about sewing but it seemed to go by rather quickly.

Here's the hood, tail and sleeve...

Here's the back...
 The front...
And the spikes, saddle, saddle rim, and belly.

On to Phase Two: The Build!!!!!

And sew it begins...

Hey! Welcome to my new blog! I'm going to write about what I create because I find it interesting and I felt like others might like it too. My first project for my blog... drum roll... Yoshi for Halloweeeeeeen!!!!!!!! If you know me, then you know I made a Yoshi costume a couple years ago.
Old Yoshi:

Well, I gave it away to a friend and I regret doing so, AND I believe I can make it better. Yoshi 2.0! Stay tuned to see if I actually finish it in time for Halloween!
